Video Projects
As a child, I was captivated by CCTV-9, the documentary channel on Chinese Central Television, and its breathtaking cinematography of nature documentaries.
While studying at Macalester College's Media and Cultural Studies Department and Northwestern University School of Journalism, I took classes related to audio, video and documentary productions. My ambition is to become a multi-media journalist capable of telling compelling stories across various mediums.
Here are some of my work from previous studies.
Social Media Video - Opening of first Heytea on the West Coast in Beverly Hills
Known as the creator of cheese tea — a tea beverage topped with cheese foam — Heytea has become one of the most popular boba and fruit tea brands in China. The company launched its first West Coast location in Beverly Hills with a menu of milk tea and fruit tea, featuring signature drinks such as Supreme Brown Sugar Boba Milk Tea, Coconut Mango Boom and Cheese Grape Boom.
In addition to the written coverage, I made this short vertical video for the Los Angeles Times Foods Instagram account.
Short Video - Artist Features about Ceramist Raina Lee
Raina Lee talks about her ceramics, influences and her proudest work, the volcanic glazes. I filmed the footage during my visit to her studio and edited it myself. The video was published along with a written piece about her art journey on the Los Angeles Times.
Documentary - A Day of Mothers
This personal film is a tribute to motherhood, shot and edited by myself. As people grow up, it is always easy to overlook the hardships behind a mother's mundane routine. During spring break in 2024, I followed two mothers (my mom and my sister) to record a day of their lives. My mom is taking care of my sister, who's still in elementary school, while my sister gave birth to a baby girl last winter. This film is a glimpse of their daily life as mothers.
